Maple Chile Bacon

Is there really a way to make bacon more delicious?  A few weekends ago, I discovered the answer is yes! I'm typically the chef in the family, but this recipe was created by my creative hubby one Saturday morning.  Utilizing the oven method, it's a breeze to make.

The first steps are to preheat your oven to 400 degrees, prep the pan, and gather your ingredients.  My husband likes to line our baking pan with aluminum foil to aid in cleanup.  The ingredients couldn't be simpler: bacon, maple syrup, chile powder, and salt (optional).

Once the bacon was laid out,  he basted with the maple syrup, just enough to lightly coat each piece.

After the maple syrup, the red chile powder was sprinkled over the top. Depending on the heat of the chile powder, you can use as little or as much as you want.  We like a light dusting so as not to overpower the bacon.

After baking for 20-25 minutes, the bacon was removed from the oven and allowed to cool.  The challenge is to wait long enough to let it cool down before gobbling it up!

Maple Chile Bacon

Ingredients
  • 1 lb bacon
  • 2 T maple syrup (grade B is fine)
  • 2 t chile powder (we use NM red chile)
  • pinch salt (optional)
Cooking Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and insert a rack on top.
  2. Lay the bacon out on top of the rack and baste with maple syrup. Sprinkle each piece with red chile, dividing evenly among the pieces.
  3. Bake for 20-25 minutes, depending on the thickness of the bacon.
  4. Remove from oven and season with salt, if desired.
